Description

A fanart I made about my favourite female characters who were accused of being insane and/or became insane and/or suicidal:

Victoria Everglot, from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. (Believed to be insane)

Lucy Barker, from Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. (Suicide attempt and madness)

Victoria Winters, aka Maggie Evans, from Tim Burton's Dark Shadows. (Believed to be insane)

Esme Cullen, from The Twilight Saga. (Suicide attempt)

Ophelia, from William Shakespeare's Hamlet. (Madness and possible suicide)

The quote is: "...Because what else is there for a girl like you but to be sweet and pretty and give in?" from
Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been by Joyce Carol Oates (1966)

Victoria was honest about the Corpse Bride all along. But her parents didn't believe her just because they were a couple of ignorant victims of their own credulity.  Is that right word, ignorant? I mean stupid, primitive, unenlightened. Any victim of his or her own credulity is to face the wrath of the gods, which may come in the form of foul fumes that rise from the cracks of hell and contaminate the air they breathe and make their faces turn a ghastly hue, like in "Asterix and the Soothsayer".
